But they can be stuck!! A-ha!! I came across a method called Fabric Mosaic via FaceBook (as you do) when I befriended a woman called Robyn Taylor who makes small pixelated fabric wall hangings using this method. She also teaches this method. Google her!!
After numerous discussions with Robyn and some of Dan's magic software creations, I began a trial piece. A portrait of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
I began by printing the design onto some printable fabric sheets.
Then started adding color by color:
I added color by ironing fusible interfacing onto each color and then cutting out the requisite shapes, turning each little piece into a 'sticker' that I could stick onto my printed sheets. It was a lot of fun!!
Dan had some fun too ... turning the process into an animated video ....... Fridamation:
And here she is, happily quilted, bordered, bound and hanging in my sewing room.
The central part of the quilt measures 15" x 19". With the black borders, it comes to 26" x 30".
I'm so excited about this new approach. Already planning my next one!
I'm entering this quilt into the 'Art' category over at the Blogger's Quilt Festival. Please pop over and vote for all your favorites.
See ya later quilties.
